Girl Troop

Girl Troop

Troop 279 welcomes all girls ages 11 – 17, who want to enjoy scouting activities as supported by the Boy Scouts of America program. Our goal is to offer an educational program that builds personal growth and develops character to be an active, participating citizen. Our program allows scouts to achieve their personal best, guides them on the Eagle Trail and offers fun outdoor experiences.

If you enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, biking, skiing, etc., please come visit us at our weekly meetings. Troop 279 is part of the Pioneer District of the New Birth of Freedom Council.

Troop 279 for girls is fortunate to be chartered by an organization so supportive of the scouting movement, St. James Presbyterian.  St. James is the home for three scouting units, including:

UPDATE:  Our girl troop has fallen victim to the COVID-19 pandemic and the girl troop did not have enough members to re-charter for the current year. We have been eager to re-start a troop for girls, however, it has proven to be quite difficult to recruit enough eager youth and adult volunteers to do so. We have plenty of equipment and scouting experience to share. So, if you know of at least 5 girls and 2 adult female volunteers, you could be part of the founding members of the new Troop 279 for girls!

Please take time to explore our website to learn about Scouting at Troop 279 and our Scouting family at St. James.  You’ll notice that this is the only page dedicated just to Troop 279 for girls. It is our belief that there is NO difference between the programs, thus no need to segregate information.  At St. James, you’ll find over 75 years of combined scouting experience between all the scouting units, helping to guide, mentor and mold our Scouts into their fullest potential!
