Webelos Events

There are two main events planned by the troop specific for Webelos scouts, including:

  1. Open House/Troop Meeting
  2. Klondike Derby (i.e. a winter Scouting Olympics)

Make plans to attend if you are a Webelos Scout! You’ll have a great experience with the Scouts of Troop 279, join a patrol and do all sorts of things that Scouts do – cooking, hiking, exploring, pioneering and, of course, having fun!

Webelos leaders will be hearing from Troop 279 with full details and registration details.

Webelos Scouts, Come and Visit Us!

Webelos Scouts are invited to attend any of our Troop Meetings and get to know what a scout troop is all about. We hold a Webelos Campout in the fall, but Webelos Scouts can join us on other campouts as well. Your Webelos Den Leader should contact us for additional details.

Norman Rockwell’s famous painting “A Guiding Hand”, 1946.

Webelos den leaders…

Do your Webelos and parents have questions about Scouts, BSA?  Troop 279 created a “Webelos to Scout Troop Transition” guide to provide essential information, answers common questions and help both Webelos and their parents evaluate potential troops.  Feel free to download the guide here and distribute it to your Webelos families.

Do you have a Den Chief? Don’t know what a Den Chief is? A Den Chief is an older Scout, usually a former Cub Scout, with knowledge of scout skills and leadership abilities. Scouts shares their enthusiasm with you and your scouts, helps in your den and encourages the Webelos to continue on in Scouting by showing them what a scout troop is all about. Just contact us and we’ll do our best to place a Den Chief in your den!

Already earned your Arrow of Light? Don’t wait to join us!

Webelos Scouts who have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least ten years old are eligible to join a troop right away! There is no need to  wait until your crossover ceremony. Completing Arrow of Light requirements also nearly qualifies you for the Scout rank, Scouting’s equivalent of Bobcat. You may register as in scout troop at any  time once you earn Arrow of Light and may begin participating in troop activities and working on advancement and merit badges. You can still attend your pack and den functions and participate in crossover when your pack holds its ceremony.

Want to join the troop as soon as possible?

You don’t need to earn you Arrow of Light Award to join the troop. If you are at least 10 years old and currently in the 5th grade, you may register on or after March 1st.

Looking for a troop?

If you’ve moved to Mechanicsburg recently or are planning to move, and are looking for a Troop, you’re welcome to check us out. Please contact us for details on the next Troop Meeting.
